Rojas Dealt Tough 2 Game Sentence
By: Dave Martinez | May 21st, 2009
As a consequence of his actions this past weekend, Jorge Rojas has earned a really tough sentence. Here are the leagues details:
“”The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today fined New York Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas $750 and suspended him one additional game for an egregious offense and failure to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after being issued a red card in the Red Bulls game on May 16 versus the Houston Dynamo.
Rojas was issued a red card for violent conduct in the 34th minute of the match last Saturday night, which carries a one-game suspension and $250 fine. The Disciplinary Committee reviewed the play and concluded that the contact by Rojas to the head of Dynamo midfielder Brian Mullan was egregious and endangered the safety of the opponent and therefore, the Committee suspended Rojas one additional game and fined him an additional $250.
The Disciplinary Committee also fined Rojas $500 for failure to immediately leave the field following the red card, bringing the total fine to $1,000 and the suspension to two games. Rojas will serve the two-game suspension for the Red Bulls games versus the Chicago Fire on May 24 and Colorado Rapids on May 30.”
Few can question the importance of this home stand, and the loss of Jorge Rojas will certainly not make it any easier. The left sided options now include Danleigh Borman and a fairly disgruntled Khano Smith. With Pacheco holding up the flank, it is imperative for the team to have a left wing partner that can be as fluid and creative as the Salvadorean fullback.
With two starters unable to play the rest of the home stretch, the Bulls will be facing an uphill battle. How much will this added suspension effect the Bulls?
