ROUNDUP! Ze Roberto To RBNY?, Dane Richards v. Argentina And Other Tidbits

By: Dave Martinez | February 10th, 2010

roundupDane Richards has enjoyed a wonderful preseason so far, putting his mark on nearly every Red Bull goal scored in recent friendly competition. The next hill to overtake? Argentina. Well, more like Argentina Juniors. And not the actual team either.

Maradona continues to make Argies scratch their heads, as he scheduled a friendly with the Jamaican squad featuring a lineup of B to C team players. Richards, meanwhile, is just happy to be there, with the Jamaican Nat’s having nothing to play for and no World Cup to aspire to. The Argie Red Bull blogger couldn’t ask for much more.

I will happily report the results of the friendly whensoever I get them. Meanwhile, here are some tidbits to keep you all talking:

- BAS is reporting the Red Bulls interest in former Brazilian international, Ze Roberto. Roberto, 35, has recently come off of an ankle injury, but he could be the midfield playmaker that Hans Backe feels he needs. Of course, he is clearly in the decline of his career, but as the article points out, the Austrian Mothership had their eyes on Roberto as early as last year, so the interest level, regardless of age, may still hold water.

Here is a video highlight package of the elder statesman in action:

- In a recent interview with Brian Lewis of the Post, Erik Soler rubbished the transfer rumors of forward Alexander Zickler, Oka Nivolov and Jonathan Fana Farias. Finally. Some closure.

- Speaking of the Extra Time Blog, Brian Lewis also spoke to Hans Backe, who readily identified the teams needs and deficiencies. Here is the link - a great read.

- Tony Tchani, Juan Agudelo and Jeremy Hall have all rejoined the team for their offseason practice.

- Andrew Boyens has been called into the Kiwi International scene for a friendly against Mexico. Double the reason to root against El Tri.

- Finally, I will be the main editor for the USMNT World Cup Blog. Check out my first posting here (with WAG supreme, Bethany Dempsey). Feel free to stop by the page and show me a little love. And no. I am not abandoning the Bulls. So chill. ;)
