Speechless. Almost. : DC 3 – RBNY 2
By: Dave Martinez | April 26th, 2009
I have to admit; I am having a hard time putting this one into words. I’ve written about ten different versions of a “postgame,” and still, I just can’t put this game into words.
Where do you start?!
Do you start at the lineup, where a red hot Mac Kandji was benched, Borman takes a seat for Khano Smith, Jorge Rojas rode the bench in favor of Sinisa Ubiparipovic, and Carlos Mendes was riding the pine?
Do you start with a horrible habit this team has of sitting back on a lead and forgetting to press the opponent for the final minutes of play?
Do I begin by bringing up the 2 goals within one minute in extra time to lose the lead and the game?
Where do I begin?!
My long term readers know I am always one that sees the silver lining. Today would be a hard game to find one. Sure, the Bulls made a dramatic comeback behind Osorios halftime changes, including Jorge Rojas entering the game and enjoying his best performance as a Red Bull. But those 30 minutes of respectable football quickly transformed into a nap session.
Let me tell you a story.
It was hot out. Really, really hot. I was sitting 2nd row midfield the entire game. 89th minute hits and I say to myself, “Dave, you have suffered enough. Why not retreat yourself to the shade by the exit door, take in the rest of the game from there, and mad dash to the car once the Bulls win it?” And a plan was hatched.
No sooner that I get half way up the section, I here a collective groan from the “10,000″ fans in attendance. Yup, that was Emilio juking Pacheco on the flank, and sinking one past Conway. Seconds later, when a cross finds space in the area, and ultimately, a home in the Red Bull net, I downed my water and head to the door. What more can be done at that point?
This is one of the most painful losses the Bulls have endured in quite some time. So let me be your psychiatrist. Feel free to let loose and share your thoughts. I’d be glad to discuss it with you.
