TFC Lite or Greg Sutton Signs With Red Bull

51750591 The Red Bulls have confirmed what many had predicted; Canadian goalkeeper and TFC original Greg Sutton has signed on with the team, perhaps to backup Bouna Coundoul, whom is coming off injury last season.

Sutton’s statistics are nothing impressive really. 34 appearances and 33 starts with TFC over the past five season, compiling just 7 shutouts and a rather unimpressive 10 wins, 20 losses and 4 ties in the process.

Wow. Does that winning percentage wreak of 2009 or what?! Ok, ok, he did better than the team did, but still!

Sutton’s late addition comes on the heels of fan favorite Danny Cepero’s release, which will make the veteran keepers job that much more difficult this season. Bouna, though reliable and a solid stud when healthy, does have question marks surrounding him, and it will be up to Sutton to supply a steady presence in the backline if and when the Senegalese big man goes down. If he doesn’t measure up, bet the house that Cepero’s cut will be his measuring stick.

And by the way, salary information is currently unavailable.

On a side note – the Bulls now have 4 – yes, count them, 4 – TFC originals on the squad; Greg Sutton, Kevin Goldthwaite, Andrew Boyens, and Carl Robinson. Did someone hire Trader Mo as a consultant or what?

TFC wasn't that great of a team the last 2 years but on the positive side...
we got their team MVP and their backup keep to backup our keep

I for one had seen enough of Cepero. He was OK but had some serious positioning issues. I have zero memory of Greg Sutton even though I'm sure he's been on the field in games I've seen on TV over the last 5 yrs. I guess thats because I was always routing against TFC. I think that works in his favor in a weird way.

Good luck to him. I hope he impresses when he gets the chance & I hope its not too too often since I support Bouna all the way.

Mike, no one said a bad word about him. What I stated above was truth (with a little humor of course!). His record doesn't inspire confidence. Can he succeed? That is another question entirely. But either way, he is a Red Bull and will be given his chance to prove himself to a new audience that enters the fray perhaps a bit skeptical.

In other words . . . WE DONT PLAYA HATE PLAYA!

And Jozy - that is where my mindset is at.

I'm having trouble finding joy in any new signings given the pending lockout/strike situation. Welcome aboard, Mr. Sutton (i guess).

I don't think it's a brilliant move, but I doubt it will be an outright disaster either. Sorta depends on what we are paying him. Decent keeper and adequate competition for Bouna. Pretty clear that this is a position where they don't want to spend a lot of resources right now and they are pretty happy with the understanding between the keepers and defenders that has been developed in pre-season.

I never understood the Cepero love. Had a great couple of games in 2008 but that's about it.

What are you guys sporting directors, your analysis sucks...in the end they see something like and we likely do well.

not a fan. i'm sure he's not cheaper than Cepero and to me at least doesn't seem to play much better either.
