THE TOSRB WHOOPING BOYS OF THE WEEK!
By: Dave Martinez | August 24th, 2007Since I am constantly talking about who is in and out of my Doghouse with this team, why not create a feature out of it!
Every Friday (or every Friday that I remember anyways), I will highlight the lowest of the low – players who are currently in the TOSRB Doghouse . . . and those who have graduated from the list! (Hey, you have to be fair right?)
We aptly call this featurette . . . . .
THE TOSRB WHOOPING BOYS OF THE WEEK!

THE TOSRB WHOOPING BOYS OF THE WEEK
CLAUDIO REYNA

Poor Claudio. Whether its injuries or uninspired play on Giant Stadiums vaunted artificial turf, Reyna has gone from Captain America to King Nothing.
The fan base has turned on em. The consensus says his DP signing is a joke. A shame considering his status.
I am confident Reyna can turn back the clock to weeks 1-3, but for now, Reyna is a whoopin boy . . .
KEVIN GOLDTHWAITE

A rival team trades their deadwaite (haha) and RBNY gives up the future . . . its going to take a miracle and then some for RBNY fans to come around for Bobcat.
Of course, he could have pulled a Hunter Freeman and debuted on 2-3 solid performances, hazing the memory of the already fickle RBNY fans. But he didnt. And we saw nothing that could make us forget Todd Dunivant. LET ALONE the fact that he lost his starting job to Chris Leitch, whom COLUMBUS decided wasnt good enough.
Start paying rent Kev . . . u’ll be here a while.
RONALD WATERREUS

Was it the header to the defenseman? Or the playing out of position, or charging inappropriately that has gotten The Walrus here? Maybe its injury induced, or the man has hit a wall.
Who knows.
But this isnt the keeper that was keeping us in every game on our way to our LONG FORGOTTEN but still very much INCREDIBLE start to the season (You remember, when we had Duni and Wynne on the team).
MARKUS SCHOPP

After thinking time and again ITS NOT HIS FAULT HE ISNT ON THE FIELD . . . I have changed my tune. He played the full 90 in a reserves match with conway in nets, and did squat. A RESERVES MATCH!
Its hard for anyone to pick up and play after nearly 2 years of stagnation. But we were counting on him to be a major part of the season. As of now, the only major season he will be helping us in is the off season . . .
ON THE FRINGE . . .
BRUCE ARENA

Bruce, the man of few words, has had his major highs, and major lows all season long. Major props to him for letting the offense fly v. the Galaxy in an attempt to showcase some exciting soccer to the nation as a whole. Major non-props for his DC gameplan (which included no Jozy – get over it. just cuz he is 17 does NOT mean he cant take the pressures of MLS . . . just ask Gago, Higuain, and Messi how they are adjusting with PLENTY of playing time in the best leagues in the world), and his trading in the midst of what was forming to be an excellent season. Props for Angel. Non-Props for Reyna.
Bruce has been our 50-50 guy all season. Lets get ya on the graduates list Brucie! Help us out!
HUNTER FREEMAN

To say that Hunter has been less than thrilling on the wingbacks is an understatement. Since coming back from injury, Freeman, much like Waterreus, has been a shadow of himself. I thought he was bad in LA . . . but he was ATROCIOUS in DC. One more game like that . . . and someone will have to be on the list, ready for a paddling!
RECENT GRADUATES!

DVB

Dave VanDenBergh has answered the call . . . after major chiding all year, and relegation to the bench, DVB has put in stellar performances the past few games, showing there is a heart beat in that Dutch body! Continue the good work Bergy!
DANE RICHARDS

Madonna gap and all, this man has a reason to smile! And so do the Jamaican Nats! Richards has been able to turn his season around, as he floundered in a freshman funk for a good portion of this summer. Now, he is playing explosively, and I wouldnt be surprised to check out his stats in a few weeks and find some extra assists, maybe even a goal in the mix, for our Jam Star!
Congrats Dane! You are a favored son now . . .

From what I have seen of Goldthhwaite throughout his career you might as well name these awards after him.

I almost feel like Bruce should be put on the “whooping boys” list for playing the defense that came off that galaxy game, and leaving Walrus in net. *sighs*

Hey Tommy, what can I say? I am forgiving. But lets see man. Cuz I have the feeling Arena is gonna be a whoopin boy after this Sundays inevitable debacle . . .
If that D doesnt hold up long enough to let our midfield create quality chances? We are screwed.
Bob, note taken! And I agree 100%! If one person becomes a constant, I just may name the award (or non award) after them!
