The Waiver Draft
By: Dave Martinez | November 29th, 2007Watch out! Today at 3pm is the MLS waiver draft (how many drafts are there anyway?!?!)
We have the 7th pick.
Here are our picks, per team:
CHIVAS: David Arvizu, Desmond Brooks, Carlos Llamosa, Rodrigo Lopez, Laurent Merlin, Justin Myers, Ramon Nunez, Orlando Perez, Eder Robles, Erasmo Solorzano
COLORADO: Zach Thornton
COLUMBUS: Ben Hunter
DALLAS: Juan Botero
D.C. UNITED: Shawn Crowe, Mira Mupier, Brad North, Kiki Willis,
HOUSTON: Kenneth Hoerner, Jordan James
KANSAS CITY: Edson Edcock, Aaron John Godbolt, Willy Guadarrama, Chris Konopka
LOS ANGELES: Mike Caso, Lance Friesz, Carlos Pavon, Kyle Veris
NEW YORK: Blake Camp
NEW ENGLAND: Bryan Byrne, Miguel Gonzalez, Marshall Leonard, Chris Loftus
REAL SALT LAKE: Chris Brown, Steven Curfman, Christian Jimenez, Jean-Martial Kipre, Jack Stewart
TORONTO FC: Adam Braz, Maycoll Canizalez, Srdjan Djekanovic, David Guzman, Stephen Lumley, Cristian Nunez, Marco Reda
Players of interest?
In no particular order . . .
Ramon Nunez, Carlos Pavon, Kyle Veris, Jack Stewart, David Arizu (remember him?!), Chris Brown, Zach Thornton, or Srdjan Djekanovic
Now, I have NO idea what they are planning on doing. But Ramon Nunez, with a proper coach (which we dont have) could excel into an excellent CAM. Pavon may have something to prove, though with Alti on board, we dont really need another forward. i liked Jack Stewart and Brown from RSL games I saw last season. And the absence of Waterboy may make room for a Thornton or Djekanovic.
What are your thoughts?

Ramon Nunez, Orlando Perez, Kyle Veris, Chris Brown, Miguel Canizalez, & Srdjan Djekanovic interest me.
Dave, do you know how this waiver draft works? Because I don’t.

I think Kipre would be a good pick up. He is a young defender that cracked the starting lineup for RSL…that does not say much but for cheap defensive back up I think he would be a pretty nice pick up.
Veris is another one. Capable back up defenders are hard to find in MLS and I think Veris is one of those.
Nunez could be good…but he hasnt been good for a while. Last year he was ok but he cannot be the centerpiece of offensive movement. Maybe he could play left wing though?

P.S. I really hope all my boys get picked up, but especially Kyle Veris.

How does the waver draft work? Being put on wavers means that the team basically says we don’t want you anymore; at least at your current price. Than other teams are given the opportunity to pick up a waived player if they want to. Traditionally there have been somewhere in the range of zero to five players picked up total. This year pretty much all the teams have gotten rid of fringe players who are unlikely to get picked up. The intersting list to me is Chivas, why are they busting that team up?

Dave, I’ve been looking everywhere for more info on this draft and I can’t even find what you’ve got. Do you have a source link I could borrow? (Of course I’ll link to you too.)
