According to the rules . . . .

” The trade window opened on November 13, 2006 and will close at the 2007 trade deadline of September 14, 2007 (in conjunction with the discovery claim and roster freeze deadline). “

Out of the many teams around the league that need to do something in order to get into the playoffs (not backing in mind you), Red Bull New York would be in the top 4 (possibly along side Chicago, Columbus and Colorado).

BRING IN FRANCESCO COCO. Inter had officially cut him, he is an open player in the market, and would solidify the central defense, if he is so inclined to play the position (duely noted by our readers, he is a wing defenseman).

Coco will demand some significant money, but nothing that can not be arranged. We do have some deadweight (Markus Schopp) that would clear up some immediate space. That is, unless other MLS rules exist (which I believe do) that freezes our roster contractual obligations prior to this deadline.

SELL HIGH SELL HIGH SELL HIGH! Now I dont mean grab some reef and ignite.

Certain players have truly upped their trade value during this stretch of 4-6 weeks, or have a significant value that can be more useful for other teams throughout the league . . . for example . . .

CONWAY
Though we can all probably forsee Conway manning the backlines of the San Jose Earthquakes, we can probably receive some value for a goalkeeper of his quality.

DVB
Yes, I am a fan of his recent stretch of play. But it doesnt mean we shouldnt try to find some value in a trade for him.

CARLOS MENDES
IF Bruce is still here next year, then why make Carlos suffer? The guy has been our IRON HORSE all season long, and now, in the most important time of the year, he is riding our bench. Look, if you dont appreciate em (Bruce), then trade him, and we are sure to get VALUE in his stead.

Now, am I willing to sacrifice any more on the D than we already have? No. But if Mendes isnt appreciated, and more importantly, isnt playing a role on our team, then off to greener pastures my friend. He deserves to start. And we may be able to at least clear up salary space for a Coco.

RESIGN ERIC DENTON just kidding.

TRADE FOR GUEVARA! . . . . . if the asking price isnt the friggin farm! It would make more sense to get him after the season and give up zilch, but if there is a way . . . .

For instance. What if we were to trade off Dane Richards and/or DVB and a 1st rounder (I am one that doesnt believe that the best value in an MLS draft is necessarily in the early rounds . . . good scouting, which we need to improve, would bring us players at any point in the draft)

Freeman would have the freedom to push up top, Magee and Kovalenko can compete for playing time on the wing. In vide/magee/reyna/Kovalenko, you know you will have 2 guys on the bench at all times that are trust worthy to bring into a game. Doe gives us the versatility to insert him as a wing, or forward, and we would still have leitch, stammler, and on the bench.

Hey . . . its a risk . . . but its doable . . . I think.
