Two Goals! Woo Hoo!

That's Mr. Altidore to you.In their final game in LA yesterday, a regular-laden RBNY side drew 2-2 with Chivas, and reportedly failed to capitalize on several other great chances, dominating at least the first half. I’m not sure how to feel about that — creating a bunch of chances and putting a couple of them away seems like tremendous progress for a team that’s concerned about finding offense going into the season, but not being able to close the deal is more than a little troubling. Those who did manage to finish were Jozy Altidore (from a great Marvell Wynne cross — let’s hear more of that, please) and Todd Dunivant, from a Claudio Reyna corner.

Most of the Red Bulls played all 90 minutes, including Reyna who, if I’m not mistaken, was making his first competitive appearance of the west coast trip. An eyewitness picked out Reyna (no surprise there) and Altidore as the standouts for RBNY — it’s nice to see Jozy stepping up, since he’s all of 12 years old and, as the point man in Arena’s favored 4-5-1 system, is going to be expected to carry the bulk of the scoring load for the club this year.

Oh, and also? Seth Stammler played a half at centerback and supposedly looked good doing it. Make of that what you will.
