VERY Quick Recap: Cows 3 - Red Bulls 1

By: Dave Martinez | September 20th, 2008

QUICK RECAP:

Columbus pwned. Straight up. Especially in the second half. There was no fight.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

+ Play Rojas centrally.
+ Put Parke back in the middle of the defensive back 4 with Cichero. If it means benching Boyens, then at least we have the depth to afford the move.
+ When being beaten down as badly as the Bulls were, a change of tactic soon after the second half goal should have been implemented to give these guys a good kick in the rear. Something needed to be done - they looked done for the rest of the 2nd half. And a 4-5-1 doesnt exactly inspire confidence.
+ Start Kandji next game.
+ Win. But hey. Thats just me.

MAN OF THE MATCH:

Frankie Hejduk. I was torn between Frankie and Eddie Gaven, who were clearly Thursdays standouts. But Frankie was unreal.

TURNING POINT:

A goal in the 45th minute of the second half is deflating, what can I say.

WHAT THE &$!&$)! MOMENT OF THE MATCH

A goal in the 45th minute of the second half is deflating, what can I say.

SPECIAL ED PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Kevin Goldthwaite. Clearly frustrated with Robbie Rogers, who treated Goldie like he was a ghost and walked through him time and time again, Big Kev decided to take matters into his own hands (or legs) and began kicking at Rogers at every turn. When it became blatant, he was red carded out of the game. I can’t stand to see frustration get the best of someone. It happens. But it shouldn’t. That brain fart makes Kev our special ed player of the match.

ooof…got nothin to say…dont faint, lol! p.s. off topic but sad about yankee stadium, being an Arch. in hist. preservation, I would have hoped they could have kept the facade, and rebuilt on same hallowed grounds that Pele graced…and all those other b.ball dudes.

Martha! I just saw the post. It seems wrong to me, as a Yankee fan and not just a footie lover, to see the stadium moved somewhere else. The majesty of that field and its history is something you just cant replace. But, in 10 years, everyone will forget the stadium as is and love the stadium for what it is then.

btw - a great article was done on soccer history on the NY Times - Ill look for the link for you.

Thanks so much, and nice to see a diversion in chaotic times. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop snifing glue…started new work and moving to Coral Gables. Miami Herald had a great write up, which I hope to read although I may have inadvertantly wrapped it as packing paper p.s. yes thats an *Airplane* the movie reference!
