VOTE: Nine Games To Go

By: Dave Martinez | July 27th, 2009

Their record stands at an ubiquitous 2-15-4. They have been out scored by 21 goals, and have played the most, and worst, football in the league. They have broken club and league records for ineptitude. They are well on their way to doing something that has only happened twice in league history; going winless on the road (the 2003 Galaxy did, but made the playoffs! Expansion Real Salt Lake were the only other team to achieve such failure). And they hold their hopes on the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament for some glimmer of success.

And how is this for a kicker; in classic Metro fashion, all of this ineptitude won’t even amount to the #1 draft pick next year. That distinction falls in the laps of expansion Philadelphia.

So here is my question. Every fan is different. Some would just want to tank the rest of the season to secure a high pick. Others would want a stellar performance to close out the season for some semblance of hope. Where do you stand?

  • I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

TANK THE SEASON and WIN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
    Best possible scenario

even if we don't tank the rest of the season, we are going to get that second draft pick. If we won every game left which won't happen we would finish with 37 points. Columbus, chicago, DC, houston, seattle, galaxy, chivas, and colorado are all already only 10 points away from that mark. If we manage to get "hot" in win 4 of our last 9 games (won't happen) than we finish with 22 points. Only three teams have failed to reach that point total so far. So if we play well, meaning we win a good amount of our remaining 9 games, we are still getting that 2nd pick. I'm hoping but not counting, on us making something happen with a healthy team in the champions league.
  • The one "other" vote said "A new coach." Should have been an option.

    never tank, always compete

tanking breeds losing, discontent and selfishness

we may suck but we aren't low enough to tank

I hope we get a new coach!!!
  • Tank it and get the draft spot. Try to gather some players for Henry

This team needs to learn to be winners. That means winning meaningless MLS league games.

Sadly, with JCO's attempt in colorado, he's not even trying.

If we were relegated then maybe it would serve as a swift kick to the balls. MlS needs more incentive to pick it up.
