RED BULLS / TORONTO LIVE GAME THREAD
By: Dave Martinez | October 4th, 2007
WELCOME TO CANADA!
I was thinkin . . . all i am doing is switching back and forth between the Yanks and the Bulls, so why not do something in between? This is for the people who have to pick which game they will have to watch.
Running thread of the Game tonite. Feel free to follow along. Or just read it tommorrow.
. . . . my clever way of not doing a game summary!
See ya at 7pm! ESPN2!
THREAD BEGINS
6:40 - JOHNNY DAMON HOME RUN! YANKEES 1 - INDIANS ZIPPO!!!! Nice second deck homer! (hey, this is the pregame stuff you gotta hear!) Yes, he was the first at bat, on a 3-1 count. NICE!

6:55 - Yankees strand 2, Sabathia closes out a potential nightmare. Lucky *!&$*. And Frank TV is a BAD idea.
7:oo - HERE WE GO! 7 o CLOCK, that DUMB college football show is OVER, welcome to Toronto! (great pregame set up!) Jozy and Angel highlighted. Nice.
7:09 - GAME ON!
2 min - DVB on the corner, gets bombarded by streamers, and a nice service goes no where.
5 min - Wynne makes a run . . . and a bad cross. MEMORIES . . . . (let me make clear, I still love Wynne)
6 min - CARL ROBINSON LAUGHABLE CORNER. What happened to this guy?
11 min - DANE RICHARDS MAKES AN IMPRESSIVE RUN AT NET, makes a bad cut and loses the ball. Great run!
13 min - Wow. Nice fog. Literally rolling in.
17 min - Dema gets a yellow, Mathis is clutching his knee. Not good. Its been a midfield toss up so far, no one really dominating. Not seeing the fire we have been used to the past few weeks.

17 min - RIGHT ON CUE. GOAL TFC. A great pass, a great finish by Edu. Did you see Wynne on that service? I did.
22 min - VIDE WITH A STUPID YELLOW. Kicking the ball away? We are looking slow, frustrated, and lost out there.
THE ANNOUNCER THIS WEEK STINKS. ROB STONE?!?!?!? GIVE ME RAY FRIGGIN HUDSON!!!!!!!!!!!
25 min - MATHIS A GREAT INSWINGER, ALTIDORE HEADS IT AT THE LAST MINUTE WIDE! Somehow, RBNY, corner
26 min - Great corner by Mathis, Stammler mistimes the shot
WHOA YANKEES ARE LOSING 3-1?! WTF?!??!?!
33 min - Did you see Todd Dunivant square off Richards? What a defenseman! Friggin guy should still be here!!!!
39 min - A deserved yellow to Edu . . . someone slap this kid some respect! With goals of course . . . .
41st min - Mathis with 2 brilliant back to back corners . . . and nothing. The team is closing in, but we need a goal. That will lift the spirits.
45th min - ANGEL WITH A GREAT SHOT AND IT BARELY MISSES!
HALFTIME
Wow. What a downer. We need to do more, and Arena needs a rah rah speech to wake these boys up. This is unacceptable.
=========================
Altidore may not be at 100%. Though he is playing his heart out, he doesnt look comfortable out there.
Vides mistake led to a crucial goal.
Do we need to make a half change? Give it another shot for the first 5-10 minutes of the second with these guys, and have Doe ready to roll just in case.
Its Arenas time to get this team amped, because they look flat. If they come out slow, changes will have to be made.
AT THE WHISTLE - REPORTED THAT ARENA SAID THE GAME WILL “SLOW DOWN” . . . get me a blanket and pillow . . . .
===================================================
45th - Robinson gets a yellow after a horrible shank. Man he stinks! A BRUTAL tackle. Coulda really hurt Dane.
50th min - “Thats an animal out there. Only he has a mask on.” Ladies and Gentleman, Eric Wynalda talking about Dema Kovalenko. I think I have a new sig . . . .
52nd - Vide throws in a questionable pass after a great giveaway from Cunningham. Not a great game so far.
54th - Ha! Stammler and Samuel go head to head! Nice! The bloods startin to boil out there!
55th - GREAT STRIKE BY MATHIS BARELY OFF!!! Coulda been tied!
56th - Jozy gets a yellow card . . . . . and the TFC fans chant JOZYS A GIRLS NAME. Priceless. They are learning the game up north . . .
59th - DEMA OUT, DOE IN. Expect Mathis to fall back a bit more, with Doe moving up. (Didnt I tell ya folks?!)
64th - VIDE ANOTHER DUMB PLAY, AND ANOTHER YELLOW, AND A RED. A FRIGGIN RED. WE ARE PLAYING FOR THE POST SEASON HERE, AND THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS?! Bad. Now we are down.
65th - CHRIS LEITCH INEXPLICABLE ABSURD KING TUT SIZE OWN GOAL. He hit the top corner, with precision. What was that about?! TFC 2 - 0 RBNY
![]()
66th - ANDREW BOYENS RED CARD ON A HORRIBLE HIT TO ALTIDORE! WHAT AN IDIOT! Amazingly late. This is getting ugly . . . . . AND THIS GAMES MOMENTUM SWINGS BACK TO US! LETS DO SOMETHING NOW!
69th - CUNNINGHAM nearly rings one up from 20 yards out, CHRIS POZNIAK in for GALA
71st - Excellent save by Waterreus on Samuel. But since the reds, its been all TFC.
74th - DANE RICHARDS WITH A HEADER GOAL!!! TFC 2 - 1 RBNY I PREDICTED IT! HAHA! BUILD ON IT BOYS!

Ricardo Clark - suspended 9 games, $10,000 fine for his kick to Ruiz head.
86th min - Pressure is building. We are playing for a tie.
89th min - headaches galour. the reality is settling in and i dont like it.
GAME OVER - TFC WINS IT 2-1
====================================================
PLAYER OF THE GAME: DANE RICHARDS. Had a change of heart. He scored the loan goal, and caused Dunivant some fits now and again. Great game rook.
BUM OF THE GAME: CHRIS LEITCH. Own goal. In what I thought could be a redemption game for him, he blows it.
PLAY OF THE GAME: The leitch own goal.
I guess I can kill this bad buzzz with the Yankees playoff game . . . oh wait. We are losing 9-3. Sigh . . . . .

I’m sorry, did Eric Wynalda just criticize the Toronto keeper because he’s arrogant?! Pot, meet kettle.

Fantastic goal. Drab game. NY looks better now they’ve traded yellow cards for possession.

Oh Martha, I should have added that! He called Waterrues arrogant! I just let it slide . . . I am hating tonites booth work.

Well, from yellows, to possession, slowly . . . maybe . . . a goal or two?
And yes Dylan. It was a fantastic goal. And Edu is an amazing player.

What a gruesome match. The approach on the second TFC was a a poor imitation of the first one, and still it goes in. A nice goal off a corner for Richards, which had the pleasant side-effect of getting Wynalda to stop incessantly repeating Toronto’s (former) 1-goal statistic in defending corners. Curious if there’s a fight going on in the tunnel right now.

UAGGAHAHhhhhh!!!!
there are a lot of teams and cities I can handle a loss to but TORONO? No, that not really acceptable. Not at all.
Especially when this was to clinch a playoff berth.
Argh

New York Bulls fans should take a cue from the BMO field in Toronto. In a city with a population of how many millions?…your team attracts fewer fans than a Iowa dog fight on a sunday afternoon. Soccer is the world’s greatest game, but you wouldn’t know it south of the border, particularly in it’s largest metropolis. Too bad, cause without a good market in New York MLS is doomed to fail.

gee Figo, thanks for the imput. Perhaps the reason there are fewer fans at the games in NY than Tor {and Tor probably leads the league in attendance so its not just NY} is because there are a million more things to do here, 2x as many sports franchises, etc. But thanks for the condesending comment.

Lets see; Paris, London, Rome, lots of things to do in those cities too. London, last time I checked, have over 10 teams in the various pro leagues, and all have better support than either La, Chicago, or New York MLS teams. My point is simple. Soccer in the US is a temporary fad, nothing more. And it is too bad, cause it is clearly the best sport in the world. And Toronto. You are right, there is much more do and see in New York. That is where we like to spend our almighty Canadian dollar. Is it worth $1.20 US yet? Soon will be.
