Ah, the Dulcet Tones of Shep Messing

The first RBNY Recap podcast of the season is up (and there was much rejoicing), featuring our friends JP Dellacamera and the very grumpy Shep Messing, who quite reasonably doesn’t even want to talk about Sunday’s game. When forced to say something good, however, he praises none other than Dema Kovalenko, if only for bothering to try. (Despite my love for Dema, even I can admit when the only thing you can find to praise on a professional team is effort, you know things have not gone well.) In addition, the also discuss the depth the team will have if everyone ever gets healthy, and how nice it will be to have guys actually competing for spots. That said, of course, as of Monday our injury list was still pretty long, so that intense competition thing is still a few weeks away.

In other news, NJ high school superstar Jose Angulo has announced he’ll be heading to Europe to ply his trade rather than moving on to college or trying to making his way in MLS. Oddly enough, to get ready to try to impress Arsenal, Roma, Lazio and Hannover 96, he’s started training with RBNY (or will do so, if those nasty blisters clear up) — yeah, that’s almost the same.

And, finally, Argentine defender Mariano Fernandez is supposedly in town this week going through a tryout with RBNY. Oddly, there’s been no word on his performances at training so far (I can’t even find out for sure if he’s here.), but there’s nothing wrong with trying to tighten things up at the back, assuming the guy is affordable.
