Bound To Happen: RBNY 0 – KC 1

By: Dave Martinez | September 14th, 2009

Jorge Rojas is wearing the goat horns this week, as a costly and unexplainable turnover lead to the 17th loss of the season for the Red Bulls, and the first under the second Richie Williams era. Getting caught up field on a set piece and having to back track, Rojas twice helped the Wizards establish their attack; first on an errant header and then failing to catch a 37 year old Claudio “El Piojo” Lopez on a break. Piojos shot rebounded off of Coundoul and Wolff cleaned it up for the 1-0 lead. And like any good team, that was all the Wizards needed to cap off a well fought road win as they took a defensive stance the rest of the way.

After the game, a scuffle between Carlos Johnson and Michael Harrington resulted in another yellow for Johnson earning him – you guessed it – another red card suspension. Harrington wasn’t carded.

On the positive side, center back tandem Boyens and Krupnick, who initially seemed to be a slow and lumbering pair, proved effective as the middle anchors. Dane Richards continues to play strongly, and Matt Mbuta also had a decent performance. But with Angel out of the lineup for this game with an injury, they could not afford to go down a goal so early the way they did. And that ultimately sealed it.

Rojas REALLY needs to go. He is a ruiner. And I have no idea why people think Richards should still be play right mid. The guy thinks he is a forward. He hardly ever gets back on defense, and always allows the opponent to have a guy run wide and free behind him, leaving Johnson or Hall to pick up two guys. He gets so lucky in situations, and people think he is playing so well. It’s the Osorio MLS Final Effect. He doesn’t play the position well at all, and he is terrible with the ball. Why not start Zimmerman there? Everyone knows he has skills.

Rojas has never impressed me and now hes making certain that he’ll go down as one of my all time most hated players.

Boynes is up there too. I know hes impressed with a clearance here and a track back there but IMO hes still one of the stupidest players Ive ever seen. In fact I dont see why hes playing so far forward on the corners since hes never ever involved in them in anyway but not getting back on defense.

lastly I dont understand why Zimmerman isnt playing. Richards – who I like – has shown a selfishness thats astounding. Pachecko – who I also think is skilled only not as a defender – has shown a better head for getting the ball into the attack. But Zimmerman seems to be the future for us regardless of his position – wing or striker, Im not sure.

    play that man!

Just heard that Pacheco was released – sad. Feels like we never got to see what he’s capable of. :(

    Dave:

All I can say about Johnson is that he has been the worse return for an investment that any MLS team has had.
According to Steve Davis at ESPN he’s the 1st player that has been red carded 3 times in a season since 2000.

Of course Johnson can boast that he did it in only 9 games. He’s currently in the s**t list in Costa Rica after his horrible performance against Mexico where Dos Santos just took him to the wood shed.

    Good Luck.
