Juan Pablo Angel to River Plate?! Stop It Already . . .
By: Dave Martinez | January 21st, 2010
As a follower of Red Bull and an hincha of Boca Juniors, I would like to do the world a favor and put an end to the Juan Pablo Angel to River Plate rumors.
This nasty bit of falsehood comes from a desperate River Plate fan base and management whom just can not get a grip on their team. The Gallinas have been floundering since they won a championship a few years back. At that time, they dug into their past and scooped Ariel Ortega from the scrap heap. Like your favorite battery operated toy that was forgotten in the attic, River Plate were happy to find out the battery hadn’t rotted out on the one time midfield dynamo. He had just enough left in the tank to get the job done.
Ever since, the storied Argie side has tried to pull the same bunny out of the hat to create success. They went so low as to sign Marcelo Gallardo, a DC United reject, to their side, hoping for another miracle, only to be met with more failure.
Ladies and gentlemen, next time you see this rumor, think George Weah or Ronaldo to the Red Bull; it’s never going to happen. And to all of you Gallineros who think otherwise, here is JPA speaking to Big Apple Soccer about the possibility:
“There’s nothing (to the rumors),” he said at Montclair State University Tuesday. “. . . I always going to be grateful. That is a team I supported as a kid and I had the fortune to play for them. I had a very good time when we were very successful. I’m glad my name is still linked with [them].”
Sorry folks. Try again next year.
