Mac Kandji Loaned To The Red Bulls
By: Dave Martinez | September 15th, 2008
It took alot to get the deal done, but the Atlanta Silverback goal scoring forward stand out Macoumba Kandji is now a Red Bull. The Silverhawks have agreed to a loan deal through the rest of this season, with an option to sign . And after passing his physical, you can expect him to be making his debut in short time.
This signing was nothing but a circus, with rumors persisting that MLS would not allow a large 100k transfer fee to be paid for a 23 year old, unproven, USL product. Though the price tag has yet to be made official, it will be interesting to see the final number in black and white. Was it 100k or more? Or were the Bulls able to fenagle their way to a deal?
For those unfamiliar with Kandji, I will once again let youtube do the talking:
Since the beginning of the season, I felt all three areas of the pitch needed an outstanding presence in order to solidify the on field product. Though he needed till the very last second of the transfer deadline, Coach Osorio has been able to accomplish the impossible; signing 4 international forwards who can realistically help the team. Jorge Rojas - Venezuelan Captain. Gabe Cichero and Juan Pietravallo – midfield shin hackers who put fear into the opponents offense. And now Macounba Kandji – all 6 feet 4 inches of em – creating not only a large target for Van Den Bergh, Rojas, and Richards at goal, but a large distraction for Juan Pablo Angel to take advantage of.
Will this gamble be enough to catapult the Red Bulls into Championship contention? Share your thoughts.

one word … effing awesome!
Poor Angel has needed some help desperately and this might do it along with the speed of Richards, the creativity of Magee, the beautiful crossing of Van Der Vergh and the stability of the rojas/petrivallo paring.
we could be winding up for a nice surprise in the playoffs

I share in all of your elation. The Bulls seem to have the dreaded D word in MLS (depth). They even have the ability to play a 4-3-3! Insane . . .

I’m so excited about this. If I was designing a striker, it would be Kandji. Lets find out his number, so I can buy the jersey now.

Rob – most likely not. He is still nursing a nagging ankle problem, and will most likely miss the game against the Crew

kandji played on september 14 for atlanta, so he should be ready for you right now. If the silverbacks sold him for 100k (i’m told the number is higher, but 100k is what is being reported), it was the stupidest fire sale in the history of world football from one of the stupidest “professional” franchises every to grace us with their stupidity. kandji will only be better in MLS as he is forced to play half speed in USL and can maybe play 60% with you guys. He could play in ANY league in the world right now and when he outgrows MLS in a year or so, he’ll be on to europe on a multi million dollar transfer.
this is not some “USL forward” who will find he doesn’t get enough room in the MLS and can’t do his thing. This is lightning on your flanks with a passion to be the best. He will light up your world.

Jabbael – your words are comforting. I REALLY hope this guy meets the hype. If you have any other insights on the man child, let us know.

Mac is an incredible player, I am happy to have seen him in person in the USL at our home stadium in Rochester. Definitely a star of the future.

Im with you Bernardo. The only thing I saw being there yesterday was that he needs pitch time to get to know Angel, Rojas, Magee and Richards. Once he knows his spot (which I think should be the middle – he is HUGE) he will give results.
