RBNY: Financial Media Hounds (With No Room For Toure)
By: Martha | April 5th, 2007
It turns out I dramatically underestimated the RBNY presence at the NASDAQ closing yesterday. Not only were Bruce Arena and Red Bull kingpin Marc de Grandpre on the scene (presumably pushing a button or pretending to ring a bell or something), but they made the whole team come along for good measure. Clearly this was one of those things teams have to do for the bonding — they all suffer terribly as a group, so it brings them closer together in the end. Brilliant, Bruce, just brilliant.
Despite having barely had time to recover from that brush with financial greatness, Claudio Reyna will be appearing as a guest on CNBC’s Fast Money tonight. According to the show’s PR department, it “gives viewers the news, as only the savviest traders can, with an angle that won’t be seen in tomorrow’s papers,” none of which explains what an American footballer is going to be doing there. Who knows, perhaps Claudio is a secret investment genius. Either way, if he goes on and pushes Red Bull stock, I think it would be OK if we all threw up a little. (I’ll Tivo it, just in case.)
While the senior squad is running around all over New York City (and, one hopes, getting ready to play in a little over 48 hours), highly touted trialist Ansu Toure is on his way back to the Minnesota Thunder, having not been offered a RBNY contract. Though he impressed early in camp, Toure reportedly faded as camp wore on, and failed to shine during the team’s recent training trip to LA. Plus, that Mathis guy — I hear he’s also an attacking-type player — showed up and took a precious roster spot. In the end, Toure wasn’t good enough to persuade the club to release anyone on the senior squad and was sent on his way. Bummer.
T-minus two days!

Crap, I was rooting for Toure to make the team. Now he’ll go back to Minnesota and beat up on my team.
