That Michael Bradley Money

By: Dave Martinez | September 2nd, 2008

Michael Bradley was a Metrostar. Just ask Alexei Lalas. And with his recent sale from the Dutch Leagues Heerenveen to Germany’s Borussia Monchengladbach, rumored to be around $5 million dollars, would you believe that the Red Bulls may be entitled to a piece of the action?

Here it is in a nutshell – MLS will get 20% of the transfer amount ($1 mil). Out of that, the Red Bulls would theoretically receive the full 500k allocation. But nothing has been made official yet. And with the way this league changes its rules, you would be wise not to hold your breath for any extra money going the Austrian Energy Drink Moguls way.

All this money, and nowhere to spend it. Maybe they will pull a TFC and invest in some grass to finish off this Giant Stadium season? Nah.

  • Daniel - its ok. DC Uniteds Jon can always give ya updates. But Fred has dropped off significantly this season, where last year he was a stand out. He has just seemed off this year (injuries?)
  • wrong team im so lost **delete**
  • Hey, do you guys still have Fred in your ranks? If so how is he going? He was an absolute revelation in season 2 of the Australian A-League but hes sort of fell of the radar since moving to you guys

Speaking of money, I am still lol on your *rolling in ones* comment! Yep, this stinks how our calendars dont line up, and its like salt in the wounds to get TWO forwards PROPERLY replaced ALL YEAR...but I am not bitter or anything, lol! p.s. I read that we did spend most of the 1st 500 thou on the 4 new players and past debt owed on JCO, At least those 5 are quite worth every penny.

I thought it was interesting during the game Vs the sleazy and dirty DC united that the commentator - cant remember which - spoke on how Rojas will most likely play for Caracas FC in the MLS offseason.

that seems a very bad idea to me since thats 2x the amount of opportunity to get injured. But they felt, and perhaps it was because there is no other option for the RBs, that it could only help keep him in game shape and add valuable experience to his game.

    thoughts?
  • NLR - we are ALLLLLLLL confused by MLS rules my friend.

reynas spot on DP will be available next season, but dont hold your breathe for a winter transfer signing - all signs point to the summer and RBArena.

As far as the extra money, what good is all of it if it cannot be used on the domestic market? Point is kinda moot.

If we were to get this 500K would that be in addition to the money we got for Altidore? Would that mean we have 1mil to spend on free agents this coming season or did we use Jozy's cash on Pietravallo and co?

I dont know why Im so confused by MLS rules.

We also have the Renya player exception next year as well, yes?

hahaha, You actually expect the MLS to give us that money? Nope, that could allow Kanji to come here and we wouldn't want that.
