Update on a Very, Very Slow News Day
By: Martha | February 22nd, 2007
For those of you interested in such things, the Red Bulls are back up north, training in the rain (well, under a bubble in the rain) at the Meadowlands. They’ll be in town for about another week and then will fly out to LA, where they’ll spend two weeks at the Home Depot Center, training and pretending they’re David Beckham, hearing the squeals of thousands of desperate women and gay men. Where will the Galaxy be, you ask? Oh, they’re busy training. IN BERMUDA. They get Beckham and Aruba, we get a used stadium in LA. What is that about?
In other news, Bruce Arena appeared on Glenn Davis’ radio show earlier this week and, in his first sentence, described the club he inherited as “very weak,” “need[ing] to be upgraded,” and “lack[ing] leadership.” That’s our classy Bruce right there, huh? I mean, come on. No matter how much truth is in those words, why not be a man about it and just take responsibility for the team you’re building? Oh, that’s right — this is Bruce Arena, he doesn’t take responsibility for anything negative. Ahem. He also mentioned that Claudio Reyna is “very fit,” and the least of his worries with the team, and that the training facility at the new Red Bulls Park will be “second to none” in the US once it’s done. He also talked enough about “definitions” to make Bill Clinton proud [insert rimshot here], and was clearly fighting not to shout “WE’RE SIGNING ZIDANE NEXT WEEK!” the whole time.
