Wednesday Roundup!

By: Dave Martinez | March 10th, 2010

roundupHappy Hump Day everyone! And sorry for my absence yesterday. Some times, there just arent enough minutes in a day . . .

Anyhow, lots to delve into, including continuous rumors, season ticket information, and a plethora of other stuff as well. It is a virtual potpourri of Roundup! news.

Here we go:

- GOALKEEPER RUMORS PERSIST. Again, from a good source within RBNY, I keep hearing that they are still in the market for an experienced, overseas keeper. Sure, I speculated in the last ROUNDUP! that is may have been code wording for Greg Sutton, but upon further investigation, that may not be the case. Apparently, with Danny Cepero’s departure, RB has taken notice of the positions weak depth and find the only cure to be an experienced veteran. The name of Paraguayan keeper Anthony Silva has come up, but again, that does not mean he is the only name on the radar.

- RED BULLS DESTROY FT. LAUDERDALE SCRUBS. The offseason dominance continues! As if the Mickey Mouse Cup wasn’t enough, the Bulls decided to take part in one more demolition derby before they headed home. RB destroyed the locals 4-0 behind goals by Luke Sassano, Tony Tchani, John Wolyniec and Sinisa Ubiparipovic. Lets see if MIAMI FC fares any better . . .

- ROSTER COMPLIANCE DATE was on the 1st of the month. The league has decided to extend the deadline due to continued CBA talks.

- DON’T FORGET - The soft opening of Red Bull Arena is this Saturday! The Red Bulls under 18 squad will be taking on the USMNT u-17’s. It will be your first chance to witness the majesty of Red Bull Arena, so don’t miss it!

- SEASON TICKETS MAILED OUT THIS WEEK! RBNY offices are sending out your season tickets between Monday and Tuesday of this week, so expect a little FEDEX box of joy at your doorsteps soon!

- RAUL: Believe it or not, reports out of Spain continue to link the Real Madrid legend to RBNY. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

- TOP 3 OFFSEASON SCORING LEADERS: Angel (6), Agudelo and Chinn with (2).

- AND FINALLY, SEEING RED! PODCAST . . . is recording tonight! Do not miss your chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Prem Soccer Shop in Hoboken! Simply send an e-mail to the show (seeingredny@gmail.com) and if your e-mail is chosen, you are a winner! And believe me, I want my readers to be winners! So go for it!

I’ll be back for more later. But feel free to share your thoughts below.

I think we should look for midfield players instead of goalkeepers.. Bouna Coundoul (in my opinion) is a great goalkeeper with no fear and he keeps improving and bettering himself.. I’d really like for Backe to give Coundoul his chance to start the season.. He deserves it after playing in 6 of our preseason games and not conceding a SINGLE GOAL.. 0.00 GAA in 6 games (even though he played only 45 minutes in most) is still really good and I can’t see him not being the starter GK (not with 0.00 GAA so far this preseason)..

it really seems like we are starting our new era with a focus on defense overall.

    Im happy about that.

Defense should always be a teams foundation and ours has been sickening for years

I agree with NoLayupRule about the defense.. We are definitely focused on defense this preseason and we’re doing an excellent job.. Let’s hope this stay during the season too.. preseason stats: 19 GF, 2 GA (VERY NICE)
