I, along with just about everyone else who cares to comment it seems, view this as a big loss to RB. I honestly don’t think there is anyone else on the roster currently with more LT potential than Zimmerman (ie young, with tons of upside) – maybe Hall, if they continue to play him in his natural midfield position, but that’s it. You never know if Zimmerman will actually develop into his talent, but for a team with minimal young talent, I view this as a big loss, particularly for what it would have cost to keep him.

So pumped for this stadium. I haven’t been to a game since the MetroStars days (sad yes, but I was @ school/living in MA). I’m going to buy myself one of the holiday ticket packs from the RB site. Happy Tday everyone! Up the Bulls!

Unreal. Is anyone managing this team? What did we give up to get his draft rights in the first place? How did they not see his potential when everyone else clearly has?

    Im sick of this team

I would have protected him over a player like Mendes. I will never understand that one.

This ship just seems to be drifting with no one at the helm. I hope this doesn’t point to a bunch of “quick fixes” for the next several years before they realize the need to develop LT potential.

I’m not of the opinion that Zimmerman will be the most damaging long term loss, but as of right now his talent and extremely low salary cap hit should have been enough to justify protecting him. Protecting some of the more expensive and only marginally better players over Zimmerman strikes me as not only a poor value of young talent, but as an inability to maximize the value from their payroll.

Amazing watching the actual visitor numbers go so LOW this weekend. But I tredge on regardless.

Haha, I’m doing my best to pump up your visitor numbers. Ugh, what made me go to law school again? I’m fairly certain I should be doing nothing right now.
But I am really excited for this Bulls season. The chance to actually go to games in a real stadium is going to be sweet.

So are you saying that we are opening next season with El Kaiser de Michoacan and Titi Henry? What’s next? Should we also get Rikkard?

I just forwarded the post to a Mexican friend of mine. I think he shot his load at the mere possibility.

:/ we won’t get Marquez or Henry. Something tells me our lovely organization will blow it.

Is that why the screen is all sticky Pico?! Damn!

Marquez would be one of the few defensive DP’s I would jump on in a second. It immediately fills three criteria needed for DP success; he is a brand name, a draw and a talented back at that.

While I don’t see it happening, if Rafa Marquez was to play in Red Bull NY his role wouldn’t be exclusive defensive anyway, he’d likely either be a midfielder or reinvent the libero role in MLS. He’d be one of the leagues most technically gifted defenders and its best passers, though his slowness and occasional self-destruction would still be there.

Sadly I don’t see it happening, while his career is on the slow down his priority is to stay with Barca where he has the chance of becoming the longest serving foreign player in club history.

He should develop nicely with the coaching staff they have in Philadelphia. There’s talent there, but time will tell.

I am so pumped for the new stadium and a new season. Remember we cannot complain when we don’t buy tix and support thru good & bad times. Tell all your friends to go out and buy tix.
