And So It Begins

Jozy! It’s going to be cold and maybe even snowing in Columbus tomorrow — a perfect day for those of us in New York to curl up in front of the TV and thank the MLS gods that the first home game isn’t until next week when (fingers crossed) it will be seasonably warm.

The jury is still out on how RBNY will line up to play our old homies Danny O’Rourke and Eddie Gaven, so it’ll be nice just to get the team on the field to see how the starting eleven look. Depending on who you ask, Bruce is either going to start Stammler as a centerback, play both Woly and Jozy — who scored his first MLS goal against the Crew — up top, and overload the left side (leaving Marvell alone on the right to run his legs off) or go with his preferred pre-season 4-5-1 system, using Stammler in the midfield, Jozy up top on his own, and speedster rookie Dane Richards on the right wing.

However we start, I’d like to see Reyna, Dema and Mathis together in the midfield at some point, perhaps in a sort of inverted triangle with Dema holding, Reyna playing provider, and Mathis doing a bit of running, depending on his girth fitness level. Additionally, this is our first chance to see how our back line holds up against actual pressure, even if it is only Columbus. Will the center — whether it consists of Stammler and Mendes or Mendes and Parke — survive? And how awesome will the Walrus be back there, particularly instead of grumpy, negative Meola? Mostly, though, it’ll just be awesome to be playing again. FINALLY! (For those of you in NYC, here are the channel listings for MSG2, if you’re like most humans and are having a hard time find it.)

T-Minus 27 hours, kids!
