Yeah, That’s Right: RBNY Are Undefeated
By: Martha | February 12th, 2007
In their first match of 2007, the Red Bulls spanked the US U-17 side 4-0 on Saturday, while unnamed players shouted “Yeah, and we can drink, too!” as they left the pitch. (Or they certainly should have been, if they weren’t.)
Arena used two entirely different lineups (apart from Dunivant and Stammler, both of whom got time in both halves), though only two of his 17 keepers got a run-out. The Red Bull goals were scored by former Brescia player Markus Schopp (twice), Dave van den Bergh and rookie Dane Richards, a little speedster who is trying to score himself a spot on the senior roster. According to the team’s website, Richards’ fellow rookie Sinisa Ubiparipovic also played well in the game, but since that’s coming right from the team’s PR machine, God only knows how truthful it is. Oh, and also: After the game the great John Harkes broke the news that Claudio Reyna “does a good job of keeping possession and holding the ball.” Sigh. Thanks loads for that insight, John. Who knew Reyna could hold the ball up?
The team were off Sunday, probably engaging in a few pleasant rounds of hazing, goalkeeper bullying, and Old Maid. Word on the street is that they’re also buying balloons for John Conway’s (AKA The Disposable Goalie) goodbye party, and trying to figure out how to not get punched by Tin Delgado when he arrives. Life in training camp is a laugh a minute, kids — don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

If only we were mayors, Michael, we could whip up some sort of KC BBQ/NYC bagel bet! As it is, we’ll have to sit in front of our computers and refresh frantically to see who kicks whose ass …
